Turkmen needlework is remarkably detailed and practical. In the past it would appear on the men, women and children clothes as well as curtains and home decors. However, these days women are lucky enough to be able to still use the clothes that are done up by these eye catching art.
There is no solid proof for the age of Turkmen needlework but it is surely a great help for the Turkmen families’ economy.
The threads and fabric can be silk or wool and the colours are red, maroon, yello, white, black, blue and green with red being the favourite and most dominant colour. Red is the symbol of fire and blood and represents the victory in the wars. For Turkmen people red means courage, perseverance and noble.
The designs are inspired by animals, nature elements, the untouched surroundings, ancient tools, weapons, Turkmen legends and beliefs.
